Africa Climate Action Hub

Putting practical climate knowledge in farmers’ hands, across Africa.

Scroll to watch it grow

It began with farmers.

In Sierra Leone, farmers learned to survey their land and study their soil, then to make clean green charcoal.

Hubs open where communities ask for them.

Sustain Salone came first. Sustain La Guinée and Sustain Casamance followed.

One network, still growing.

ACAH connects the hubs, so what works in one place spreads to the next. Lake Chad and the Congo Basin are next.

Who we are

One organisation, a growing network of hubs

Africa Climate Action Hub (ACAH) is a non-profit company registered in England and Wales. It owns a network of hubs in West Africa, where farmers and communities learn to farm smarter, switch to clean fuel and create green jobs.

ACAH brings the hubs together under one organisation, and gives governmental and charitable funders one place to invest in the work.

How we work

What the hubs teach

Practical skills for better harvests, cleaner fuel and new income

  • Smart farming

Surveying the land, analysing the soil and checking local weather forecasts, to choose the crops that will grow best.

  • Green charcoal

A clean replacement for ordinary charcoal, made from agricultural by-products.

  • Green jobs

Eco-preneurial work that restores the land, such as beekeeping and reforestation.

Our hubs

Local roots, shared network

Each hub is a local organisation with a local name, registered in its own country. ACAH connects them, so what works in one place can spread to the next.

  • Sierra Leone

    Sustain Salone

The first hub, in Sierra Leone, where the work began.

  • Mamou, Guinea

    Sustain La Guinée

A hub in Mamou, chosen for its position as a crossroads.

  • Casamance, Senegal

    Sustain Casamance

A hub in southern Senegal, serving the Senegambia region.

  • Future hub, not yet established

    Future hubs

Lake Chad and the Congo Basin are next.

Our story

How it grew

  1. Farming in Sierra Leone

The work began with farmers in Sierra Leone, using technology for smart and precision farming: surveying land and studying soil to work out which crops will grow best.

  2. Clean energy

Most people in Sierra Leone used charcoal, which harms the planet. The answer was green charcoal, a clean fuel made from agricultural by-products.

  3. Sustain Salone

The first hub opened in Sierra Leone, teaching farmers to make green charcoal alongside smart farming.

  4. Sustain La Guinée

The next hub opened in Mamou, Guinea, chosen for its position as a crossroads.

  5. Sustain Casamance

People in the Senegambia region wanted a hub of their own, so Sustain Casamance opened in southern Senegal.

  6. Africa Climate Action Hub

ACAH was registered in England and Wales to bring the hubs together under one organisation.

  7. Next: Lake Chad and the Congo Basin

ACAH has been approached about hubs in the Lake Chad Basin and the Congo Basin.

What we stand for

Our values

  • Knowledge for everyone

The knowledge farmers and communities need should reach them directly, not stay with a few. ACAH shares it through its hubs and conferences.

  • Built with farmers

The work began with farmers in Sierra Leone, and it is shaped by what farmers need.

  • Local roots, shared network

Each hub is a local organisation with a local name, registered in its own country. ACAH connects them, so what works in one place can spread to the next.

  • Led by demand

Hubs open where communities ask for them. That is how the hubs in Guinea and Casamance began, and why Lake Chad and the Congo Basin are next.

  • Good for people and planet

Climate action should also mean better harvests, cleaner fuel and new income.
